The following is a list of upcoming art events taking place in Southwest DC.
WHAT: Performing Indonesia – Not everyone can go off to exotic places for vacations but those of us who live in Southwest can have a taste of what it’s like when we visit the Sackler Gallery. Performing Indonesia is a festival featuring musical treats from West Java, over the Oct. 4-5 weekend. Indonesia is over 10,000 miles from DC, but their music, dance, and puppetry festival in performances and demonstrations is right here in Southwest for all to enjoy.
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 4
Symposium: Performing Arts in West Java from  10:00 am – 12:00 pm & 1 – 2:30 pm
Wayang Golek Puppets: The Miraculous Birth of Hanuman, the Monkey King 3 – 4:30 pm
Dance and Music from West Java: Indonesian College of the Arts  7:30 pm
WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 5
Student Angklung Orchestra  11 am – 2:30 pm
Dance Sundanese! (For ages 8‒14 with adult companions) 1 – 2 pm and 2 – 3 pm
Paint a Puppet! (For ages 8‒14 with adult companions) 1 – 2 pm and 2 – 3 pm
Gamelan Music of West Java 3:30 – 5 pm

COST: All events are free and open to the public.
WHAT: Our War – Arena Stage’s National Civil War Project theatrical event brings together 25 of America’s finest playwrights to explore the war and its repercussions in short monologues and ensemble pieces. Our War aims to bring new understanding to this most significant period in our history. This is a one-time opportunity not to be missed!

WHAT: The fourth annual (e)merge art fair is bigger than ever, with paintings, sculptures, videos, performances, installations, and other media from an international roster of 85 exhibitors presenting works by 150 artists from 30 countries.
WHERE: Capitol Skyline Hotel at 10 “I” St. SW
WHEN: Opening Night Preview Party, Thursday, Oct. 2 from 7 – 9 pm
Concert by the pool with Furniture, Pleasure Curses, and Chris Burns (DJ set) from 9 – 11 pm
FAIR HOURS:
Friday, Oct. 3: 12 – 7 pm
Saturday, Oct. 4: 12 – 7 pm
Sunday, Oct. 5: 12 – 5 pm
ADMISSION: Opening Preview: $45 in advance, $55 at the door
