Initially, it looked like our June issue would be a relatively quiet one.  How wrong that assumption was!   You’re looking at the proof – this issue is packed with stories, from a world-record attempt to important news on environmental justice and affordable housing, with a generous helping of community stories, arts and entertainment events, and sports news scattered throughout.  It just goes to show that Southwest is hopping (as if we needed proof)!

We’d like to draw your attention to one item in this month’s paper in particular.  While The Southwester is self-funded through advertising revenue, its parent organization, the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly, relies largely on the generosity of community members to fund its operations.  SWNA has put together a letter about the programs it organizes (and funds) that benefit our neighborhood.  All donations to SWNA are tax-deductible and are sincerely appreciated.

Of course, there are other ways you can help your community.  SWNA’s task forces, of which The Southwester is but one, rely completely on volunteers.  If you’d like to get involved with community history, youth activities, technology, employment or scholarships, visit www.swdc.org or contact SWNA’s president, Kael Anderson, at andkael@gmail.com to learn more.

For information on volunteering with The Southwester, just send an e-mail to editor@thesouthwester.com.  And, as always, thanks for reading!
