Each month, we’re sharing updates from ANC6D to keep neighbors informed about deliberations shaping our Southwest community.

In June, the ANC met and agreed to send a letter to the District Department of Transportation regarding safety recommendations for the 6th Street and M Street SW intersection, including pedestrian signalization, speed bumps, and vehicular signalization adjustments.  Further, they will call for volunteers and nominations for a pedestrian safety task force which will submit a report identifying major dangerous intersections and recommendations for safety improvements by October.

Later in the meeting, artist Monica Jahan Bose presented a proposed 4th Street SW Mural Project to affix a mural to the wall on the south side of the building that is home to Momo Chicken and Grill. Bose said she would conduct community poetry and art workshops as part of the project. The ANC voted to support her grant application.

The ANC voted in favor of a resolution to send a letter supporting funding for Town Center Park in the DC budget. Two Commissioners, Gottlieb Simon and Fredrica “Rikki” Kramer voted against the resolution, citing other budget priorities.

Finally, the Earth Conservation Corps announced job postings for an administrative assistant and environmental educators, noting they hope to hire from within the local community.

The next ANC6D meeting will be on July 21.
