Join the Thelma D. Jones Breast Cancer Fund (TDJBCF) virtual support group meeting on Wednesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/TDJBreastCancerFund/.
The guest speaker will be Talya Gordon, a recent University of Maryland graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biobehavioral Health, the latter of which she created. Gordon will present her thesis entitled “Psychosocial Protective Interventions for African American Breast Cancer Survivors,” which featured the Thelma D. Jones Breast Cancer Fund as a case study.
Raised by a South African Jewish family, Gordon felt that her background as an Orthodox Jew possessed striking similarities between the African American community’s devotion to spirituality and her community’s own spiritual sentiments, making her work more meaningful from a personal standpoint and evident during her presentation.
The virtual support group meeting will be emceed and facilitated by the renowned Andrea Roane, an Emmy Award-Winning journalist and Breast Cancer Advocate. In addition, opening remarks will be provided by Lucile Adams-Campbell, PhD, Associate Director for Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Professor of Oncology at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University Medical Center, among other titles. Closing remarks will be provided by Carla D. Williams, Ph.D, Interim Director, Howard University Cancer Center, and Southwest resident.The TDJBCF’s meets via Facebook live the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., unless otherwise specified.
