The American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Support Group (Southwest) welcomes Shanti Norris, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Smith Center for Healing and the Arts, as its guest speaker on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:30 pm, 1101 4thSt, SW, Suite W120, Washington, DC 20024. Norris will talk about aspects of healing as it relates to her work with cancer patients, especially breast cancer patients. She runs the Smith Center weeklong retreats for people with cancer, and oversees new initiatives, including the Patient Navigation project at Smith Center and The Joan Hisoaka Healing Arts Gallery. She established the Smith Center Wounded Warrior Arts Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Norris is a three-term member of CARRA, the patient advocacy program at the National Cancer Institute, and a graduate of Project LEAD from the National Breast Cancer Coalition. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. Norris is a founding board member of The Art Connection in the Capital Region and a founding member of the National Arts in Healthcare Advocates. She is also a member of ArtTable, the mother of three adult children, and is a painter and sculptor.
