Waterfront Academy hired its teaching team for the 2014-15 school year: Karina Trejo, Garry Robert, and Concepcion Roque.

Karina Trejo is our Spanish Montessori primary guide. Karina received her AMI Montessori training from the world-renowned Instituto Montessori de Mexico under the direction of those who studied directly with Dr. Montessori and Dr. Montanaro. With several years of experience in both infant/toddler Montessori programs for children up to age three and the Children’s House for kids between age three and six, Karina will provide great insight and has a passion for educating young children. She speaks fluent Spanish as her native language, which will meld a new language into the everyday lives of our students.

Garry Robert joins Waterfront Academy as our catechist. Garry comes to us with valuable experience. He has worked as a civil law attorney in Haiti and as a French and Spanish professor in the Dominican Republic. Trained in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, he hopes to share his deep faith with our students and join them on their individual journeys of spiritual discovery.

Concepcion Roque, our primary assistant catechist and guide, is an educator with experience working in the dual-language setting. She worked for several years in various roles in DC Public Charter Schools. Concepcion brings her vast experience in sharing a second language with students along with an incredible spirit and desire to share Spanish with all children in a loving, caring environment.

“Together, this team of educators will work with the students of Waterfront Academy to ensure a high quality education. Their detailed experiences will guide our students through their Montessori, religious, and Spanish education with confidence and fidelity to each,” said Waterfront Academy’s Head of School, Rebeca Shackleford.

Melissa Rohan, President of Waterfront Academy, said, “Our first day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 2 and I am really looking forward to our first school year with such a competent and caring team.”

Waterfront Academy is a dual immersion (Spanish and English), faith-based Montessori school with emphasis on charity and stewardship in the Catholic tradition.
