Mandarin Oriental, located at 1330 Maryland Ave SW, announced it selected Amidon-Bowen Elementary School as the beneficiary of the hotel’s annual FANtastic March, a 5K fundraiser.
On Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m., hotel colleagues and guests will lace up for the Sixth Annual FANtastic March. The race begins at the hotel’s front drive and winds around the National Mall before returning to the hotel for a celebratory breakfast and silent auction at approximately 11 a.m.
The fee to participate in the walk is $45 per person and includes pre-race snacks and stretching session, event t-shirt, and post-race breakfast.
In addition to the 5K run/walk, hotel colleagues will also hold various charitable events internally, such as raffles, snack sales, car washes, silent auctions, and more. The funds raised by Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC will be used to assist the school in their mission to deliver a safe and nurturing environment that sets high expectations for its students and provides them with the tools to attain academic success.
We are delighted to once again provide much-needed support to our local area schools. In 2012, the hotel’s charitable efforts raised more than $40,000 to help rebuild the Title 1 School’s library. This year’s funds will go toward the purchase of computer carts, providing computer access to all students. The carts allow up to 30 laptops to be secured, recharged, and rolled from classroom to classroom. Currently, the school’s computer lab only has 25 desktop computers and a limited number of computers spread across the classrooms.
