Zelda Fichandler (1924-2016) was an extraordinary woman who not only was the co-founder and first artistic director of  Arena Stage, but whose influence on American regional theater is legendary.
 
In memory of Zelda Fichandler, Arena Stage dimmed the theater lights before the start of Born For This: The BeBe Winans Story on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. That day marked the 66th anniversary of Arena Stage’s first performance: She Stoops to Conquer on Aug.16, 1950.
 
Memorial events planned at Arena in October are:
  • The Words of a Visionary, in the Molly Smith Study on Sunday, Oct 23 from 2 to 7 p.m., and
  • A Memorial Service, at The Fichandler Stage on Monday, Oct. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.
