On Saturday, May 27, King Greenleaf Recreation Center’s outdoor basketball court was transformed into a boxing venue. The first annual Gloves Spreading Love Amateur Boxing Event brought together hundreds of community and family members to watch fighters from up and down the East Coast, including Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Delaware, Philadelphia, Richmond and Baltimore. Boxers ranging in age from 8-25 participated in 19 bouts, including a finale of a spectator closing bout between two up and coming amateurs fighters from DC and New York City.
Sponsors supporting the event included SW BID, Hand2HeartDC, SW Comm-Unity Forum, Conscious Eye Design and DC Parks & Recreation Sports Office. The organizers also offered special thanks to the First District Police Department, King Greenleaf Staff and SW BID Environmental Ambassadors.
