Washingtonians gathered at the Southwest Block Party at Lansburgh Park on June 3, where music, food, and fun was provided by a number of sponsors. King Ribs BBQ was provided to attendees, and there was fun for all ages. Clarence “The Blues Man” Turner played a long set, with some in the audience grooving along to his blues and funk tunes. Kids had a variety of activities to enjoy, while everyone could peruse information booths from Friends of Titanic Memorial Park.
The event also marked flood awareness week, and there were information booths with information about issues related to flooding to Washingtonians. The staff of DC’s Department of Energy & Environment had a fun diorama set up to demonstrate the importance of having green spaces and trying to limit impervious surfaces. The Water and Sewer Authority and Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking also had information booths There was also a scavenger hunt for kids to participate in and a Foamboree foam party that made for a memorable day.
