At Serve Your City/Ward 6 Mutual Aid (SYC/W6MA), our mission is to provide Black and Brown youth and families in Washington, DC, with essential resources and support at no cost. From after-school enrichment and tutoring programs to vital community support, SYC/W6MA plays a key role in ensuring community safety and delivering necessary provisions. Our partnerships with Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) in Southwest DC and various grassroots organizations across the city are crucial to these efforts.
Throughout the year, SYC/W6MA spearheads numerous initiatives to uplift our community, including food distribution and supply drives for local youth. These efforts are supported by the generous donations and backing from our community, for which we are deeply grateful.
Celebrating a Key Community Partner: Capital Yacht Club Community Chest
Our fifth annual #WeKeepUsSafe Back-to-School Bash (B2SB) in late August was a fantastic event, distributing backpacks and digital devices to students across all eight wards. For a detailed recap of this year’s highlights, please visit: bit.ly/2024B2SB-NEWSLETTER.
We’d like to extend a special shout-out to Capital Yacht Club Community Chest for continuing to champion our youth over the past five B2SB events. Their steadfast partnership and financial contributions since 2020 have been essential in equipping K-12 Black and Brown students with the tools they need for a successful academic journey.
We are profoundly grateful for Capital Yacht Club Community Chest’s continued support. Their commitment to “solidarity, not charity” has a significant impact on our families and plays a crucial role in providing essential resources that uplift our K-12 scholars. Southwest Pod Closure and Ongoing Community Support
On August 28, SYC/W6MA’s Southwest (SW) Pod at CUMC officially closed. Despite this, our commitment to the Southwest community remains steadfast. We will continue to provide essential supplies, including food, diapers, and feminine hygiene products, to CUMC and their 5000 Food Ministry, which will maintain its food distributions on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month at 2:00 p.m. at CUMC (900 4th St SW). Additionally, we will continue to support the James Creek Resident Council with monthly supplies of food, diapers, and feminine hygiene products. We are deeply grateful for the generosity and assistance that have strengthened our partnership with CUMC, showcasing the power of solidarity and mutual support in Southwest.
