Police officers, firefighters and members of the military were treated to a picnic lunch, courtesy of Capital Yacht Club on Sunday, November 10th. The club, located at The Wharf, fed the first responders in the 34th annual First Responders Appreciation Picnic. Volunteers served hamburgers, hotdogs and all the fixings to scores of first responders.
“It’s an easy way for us to say thank you to those who serve us every day,” said event organizer Guy Shields.
Much of the food was donated by local restaurants, including Kirwan’s, Lupo Marino, Kaliwa and others.
In addition, The Capital Yacht Club’s 501(c)(3) foundation, Community Chest, continues its support for DC Sail. Recently CYC Community Chest donated $10,000 to DC Sail in support of scholarships for DC youth to learn how to sail.
DC Sail, located on the Anacostia waterfront, has sailing programs for youths and adults as well as a high school racing program.
CYC Community Chest board members Pam Dahill and Paulette Pidcock presented a check to DC Sail Executive Director, Traci Mead, at DC Sail’s waterfront home at the Navy Yard.
