The Thelma D. Jones Breast Cancer Fund (TDJBCF) continues its 10th anniversary celebration with a February Support Group Meeting honoring Black History Month. Join the TDJBCF on Wednesday, February 16, at 6:00 p.m. as we focus on breast cancer in men, COVID-19 and mental health during the pandemic. Guest speakers will include Dr. Kermit A. Crawford, Associate Professor and the Avalon Endowed Chair of Psychology at Hampton University and Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus at the Boston University School of Medicine.
At Hampton, Crawford serves as the principal investigator and Executive Director of a $17,700,000 Reimagining Workforce grant from the U.S. Department of Education. He formerly served as Director of the Center for Multicultural Mental Health at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center, and as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Marathon Bombing Victims/Survivors Resiliency Center. Dr. Crawford will discuss mental health overall and the impact of the pandemic on mental health.
In addition, Leonder (Rico) James, an artist, breast cancer advocate and COVID-19 survivor, will share a poignant account of his fight for survival during a two and a half month hospitalization for COVID-19 and his will to live in light of his previous decision about receiving the vaccination.
The TDJBCF’s February meeting is sponsored by the Southwest BID for the second consecutive year under the leadership of Executive Director Steve Moore. Southwest BID Ambassadors, who work closely with TDJBCF Founder Thelma D. Jones on several community efforts, will be present as well.
