The CBCC’s Southwest Playground Project is pleased at to announce that the construction documents for the playground at 3rd and I Streets, SW, are complete and will be placed to bid by DPR in early June. Since the February ANC6D meeting that approved our final design and proposed concept for the upgrades and playground at 3rd and I Streets, SW, the LAB Architects have been working very hard and diligently with our civil engineers, Wiles Mensch, and DC Parks and Recreation for the last couple of months to prepare the construction documents needed to put the project out to bid for a contractor.  The main issue that delayed us has finally been resolved involving the storm water and drainage system in the park.
The construction documents were turned over to DPR last Thursday and will be placed to bid for contract in early June.  This process can take approximately 30-60 days.  Once a certified contractor has accepted and been approved, the permits will be pulled and the work will begin.  With permits in hand, we expect that the entire project will take approximately 6-8 weeks, and expect to be completed by Fall!
Felicia Couts, the community lead for the playground, will continue to keep everyone updated on each step through this process, and she thank each of you for hanging in there.  It’s been a long road, but it’s finally happening.  Thank you all so much for your continued support!
