The world premiere of The Shoplifters by the noted Canadian playwright and director Morris Panych will open Arena Stage’s 2014-15 season.
The comedy is a merry spin as three oddball characters battle wills and confront significant issues.  It starts when a steak that Alma, a career shoplifter, has applied her “five finger discount” to falls out of her clothing and an overzealous security guard  confronts her.  The stakes are raised when his mentor Otto joins in and the three confront what the haves and the have-nots actually have in common.
A world premiere is like a gift box; one can shake it and guess what is inside, but the only way to know is to open it.  The best way to know about a show is to just go!
