The final two shows of Arena Stage’s 2014-15 season, have something in common—what happens when four sisters with very different ideas get together?

Christopher Durang’s funny, award-winning play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (April 3 to May 3) is a madcap mix-up of Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece. The gloomy characters are relocated  to Bucks County, Pa., where Vanya and Sonya from Uncle Vanya are living out a bleak existence when in blows their fading movie star sister Masha from The Three Sisters, along with her new boy toy and a big announcement. Completing the family are Nina from The Seagull and Cassandra from Greek mythology.

The world premiere of The Blood Quilt by Katori Hall (April 24 to June 7) is set in the Jernigan Gals’ Quilting Corner. Four sisters gather for the occasion of creating a family quilt to honor their deceased mother. That is, until her will is read. Will their inheritance tear them apart or will the quilt hold them together as a family?

SOUTHWEST NIGHTS:
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike: April 10 at 8 p.m.
The Blood Quilt: May 24 at 7:30 p.m.
