As we walked into Nationals Park on July 26, the smell of summer and crabs filled in the air. The Nationals were hosting the Milwaukee Brewers, and we would be covering the game for The Southwester as part of a special partnership with our school Jefferson Academy.

After picking up our press passes and entering the stadium, we walked on the field and took some pictures. We then made the long walk up to the press box and sat down for a delicious pre-game meal before settling into our seats. Before the game, Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans was honored on the field as the team unveiled the logo for the 2018 All-Star Game, which will be held at Nationals Park.

The Brewers controlled the early part of the game, scoring two runs in the first inning, including a home run from Domingo Santana. The held a 2-0 lead over the Nationals for the first six innings.

The Nationals didn’t score a run until the seventh inning, when Daniel Murphy hit a solo home run. The team then exploded with a seven-run eighth inning, including a game-tying single by Wilmer Difo and two-run doubles by Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Lind. The one bad moment was when Bryce Harper was ejected for arguing balls sand trikes. But even without Harper, the Nats eventually prevailed with an 8-5 win.

Overall, our experience at the game was tremendous. It was one of the best days of our summer break. We got to spend time with our principal Mr. Dohmann, and we were treated like VIPs. We can’t wait to cover another game soon!
