Name? Conte’s Bike Shop in The Yards

How did you get started? We were founded in 1957 in Newport News, VA, by family patriarch Charles Conte, Sr. Conte’s has been recognized nine times as one of America’s Top 100 Bike Shops. With 11 locations in Virginia and DC and our recent expansion into the south Florida market, we pride ourselves on providing a multibrand retail experience while being a resource for the cycling community, offering events, clinics, structured rides and online information. Our current locations are: Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Newport News, Williamsburg, Richmond-Midlothian, Richmond-Short Pump, Arlington, and Falls Church (all in Virginia), as well as here in The Yards. Later this year, we will be opening additional locations in Alexandria, VA; DC (on Wisconsin Avenue); and in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

When did you open here? March

What is your first impression of the neighborhood? We absolutely love The Yards neighborhood—it has a vibe, a pulse, and is alive. We’re right in the thick of its explosive development and we are thrilled to be a part of the action, the neighborhood, and The Yards community.

What are you looking forward to most after moving here? Clearly, the cycling community and our neighbors. Before we opened, there was a glaring need for a bike shop in the area and we are excited to have filled that need. Now that we’ve been here for a few months, we’re enjoying getting to know our neighbors better, celebrating New Bike Day with riders, and supporting our local cycling community.

What makes Conte’s different? We are not aware of any bike shop in all of DC that has a heritage of 60 years. Our heritage comes from our commitment to excellence in every way at Conte’s. Most importantly, it is our No. 1 priority that everyone who steps foot in our shop feels comfortable, heard, and confident about their choice to shop with us. Additionally, our service department is unrivaled and the multiple brands we carry are top notch.
