Riverside Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches in Southwest, tracing its roots back to the Island Baptist Church, founded in 1857. The church has been on the corner of 7th Street and Maine Avenue SW since the 1960’s, and in 2019 moved into a new building. Today, Riverside prides itself on its openness and inclusivity. The church is committed to serving the Southwest DC community, and as part of that commitment, has announced a new scholarship program for qualified students pursuing an undergraduate degree.
Applicants must be a member, dependent or grandchild of a member, or a resident of Southwest DC. Applicants also must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; have provided service to their congregation or community and need financial assistance.
