The following is a notice from ANC 6D Commissioner Andy Litsky:
Dear Southwesters,

This morning I received an e-mail from the DC Health Department letting our community know that West Nile Virus had been found present in and around the area of Ft. McNair. Attached to this e-mail are two documents that you may find helpful in educating yourself about the manner in which you can protect yourself and your neighbors from this mosquito-borne disease.  Below is a letter that contains additional information on the problem.  Please forward this message to your own lists and also talk about this with your neighbors who may not have access to e-mail.

In past years, at least one of our SW residents became seriously ill because of West Nile.  So let’s all do that we can to eliminate the potential harm to ourselves and to others by following some of these simple suggestions.  And don’t forget to get good bug spray — with DEET — that you use when you go outside, especially during the evenings when the mosquitoes are at their most active.

If you have any more questions please contact Maria Hille, of the DC Health Department, at (202) 535 -1952.

Stay safe and have a great summer.

Andy Litsky
Chairman, ANC-6D
