The Southwest Emergency Preparedness Task Force, one of the task forces affiliated with the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly, is hosting a presentation on “The August 23, 2011 Louisa, VA Earthquake and Lessons Learned for Community Disaster Preparedness Going Forward.”
The guest speakers will be Ms. Amanda Reidelbach, disaster relief & volunteer coordinator with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and Ms. Kim McCall, community outreach and engagement specialist of the DC Emergency Management Agency. Each will provide a short overview of the effects of the earthquake in Virginia and the District, how the disaster response operations were coordinated, and what main lessons can be learned for communities throughout the area on how to be better prepared for disasters.
The presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 27 from noon to 1:15 p.m. and the location will be River Park Mutual Homes, South Common Room, 1311 Delaware Ave. SW.
Door prizes will include a free pair of tickets to the “Designing for Disaster” at the National Building Museum.
