The fifth annual Running of the Chihuahuas took place Saturday, May 7 at the Wharf. This unique Cinco de Mayo celebration drew adults and families from the area to the Southwest Waterfront. Almost 100 Chihuahuas took place in the race; there could only be one winner, though, and Nutmeg took the honor.
In addition to the race, live music and a dog costume contest entertained the crowds. Food trucks, sponsors, and vendors rounded out the free event, which benefited Rural Dog Rescue, an organization dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. Sponsors and exhibitors included Wagtime, Howl To The Chief, K9 Anytime, Metro Mutts, Bone Jour Dog Grooming, and several other pet-oriented local businesses.
