Once again, Arena Stage will hold its annual kickoff to its new season with Community Day on Saturday, Aug. 25 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Mead Center, located at 1101 6th St., SW.
Community Day means just that—something for everyone! This event is completely FREE to the public and great for all ages.
Community Day will feature a sample of what lies ahead in the upcoming musical season. Klezmer musicians Machaya will echo the sounds of the dance and music-filled drama, “Indecent.” Storyteller Diane Macklin will share messages inspired by the a cappella musical, “Jubilee.” DanceSport will perform based on the ballroom, social dance scene in “Anything Goes.” In addition, Russian dancers will perform, reflecting the setting of the world-premiere political drama, “Kleptocracy.”
There will also be great food from restaurants on The Wharf and in Southwest, including Canopy Central at Canopy by Hilton, Del Mar by Fabio Trabocchi, Muze at the Mandarin Oriental, Masala Art, Station 4 and Richard’s Place.
The Humane Rescue Alliance’s mobile adoption vehicle will be onsite with adoptable cats and dogs for attendees to meet, adopt and go home with, as a new best friend!
In addition, the day will feature live music from Americana band Justin Trawick and the Common Good, trumpeter/singer/lyricist Jared “MK Zulu” Bailey, singer/songwriter for young children Mr. Skip, and dance performances from percussive dance artists SOLE Defined.
Finally, there will be pony rides from Ponies Unlimited and face painting.
